“Escaramuza," an abstract tribute to the all-female Mexican equestrian teams known for their daring, high-speed, synchronized routines. The Escaramuzas, who wear vibrant folkloric costumes and ride side-saddle, embody both elegance and fierce control. The complex, virtuoso horsemanship of these modern-day Amazons has deep roots in both indigenous and Spanish traditions.  Escalante's vivacious choreography alludes to the muscular, graceful movements made by both the well-trained animals and the athletic riders, metamorphosing the dancers into centaur-like beings.
