I'm Steven; a Lighting Designer, Programmer, and ALD based in New York City.

Theatre is what started me on the path lit before me back in high school, and it is the home I always come back to. In addition to theatre, I enjoy variety in my work including dance, events, tv & film, concerts, and installations. I find this variety propels me forward with new experiences and perspectives, and pushes me to improve and build upon my methods and skills.

As a Lighting Designer my favorite moments are when I am able to craft an image on stage that makes my chest swell sends a chill down my shoulders.

As a Theatre Programmer I like to think of my collaboration with the Designer through the framework of a 75/25 partnership. My focus is split 75% directed at the console and screens, and 25% directed at the stage, allowing the Designer to direct 75% of their focus to the stage, the Director, and other collaborators, and 25% directed at the screens in front of them. Of course this is a descriptive not prescriptive framework, so this ratio changes based on the workflow of the Designer and the needs of the production, especially when working with a Designer outside of theatre for an event or film shoot, where they may not have the luxury of screens of their own.

I also enjoy using digital photography to play with color, composition, and texture, experimenting with different visual aesthetics that can be brought into my work with light for an in-person audience.
